Bundaberg is one step closer to welcoming a progressive new space for families, with plans advancing for the Bundaberg Community Hub following community consultation and collaboration with local service providers, organisations and community members.

The Bundaberg Community Hub is a key outcome of a place-based initiative designed to create an inclusive, multidisciplinary service hub in Bundaberg.

The project is focused on bringing together health, education, wellbeing, and social services under one welcoming roof to improve access, integration, and outcomes for children and families living in the Bundaberg Region.

Community consultation has played a central role in shaping the Hub.

Guided by a robust engagement plan, feedback was collected through forums, focus groups, online surveys, and targeted discussions particularly with local community members, parents, service providers, and government agencies.

Participants were invited to share their vision for what the Hub should feel like, where it should be located, and what services it should offer.

Angela Twyford, Wide Bay Kids President said through community consultation and co-design activities with local families and service providers, the message was clear.

“People want a space that is centrally located, close to transport options, inclusive, culturally safe, family-friendly, creative, and practical, with wraparound support that’s easy to access when it’s needed most,” she said.

Following this consultation, Bourbong Street has been identified as the preferred location.

Centrally positioned in Bundaberg CBD, the site offers immediate availability and can be adapted with minor fit-out changes to meet the community’s vision for a warm, welcoming environment.

The Hub’s design and programming are being shaped through a Collaborative Model, complemented by the Family Partnership Model ensuring services are delivered in a way that supports informal engagement, and respects the strengths of every family.

Several local organisations have already expressed interest in co-locating services at the Hub.

We’re still inviting services and organisations to express interest in being part of the space. Whether you’re a provider offering health, education, legal, parenting, or social support or a community organisation that wants to run group sessions, programs or events.

Phase 1 of the Bundaberg Community Hub is expected to be operational by July 1 2025.

As momentum builds, the project team will continue engaging with community members to ensure the Hub remains flexible, family-centred, and reflective of local priorities.
