Beachgoers can expect more good weather this weekend according to Craig Holden, with light and variable winds, cool to mild temperatures and mostly sunny skies.
Weather
Well, it has been a sensational week of weather during this past week with sunny skies, a couple of warm days to start the week and then a chilly morning yesterday to reminder us it is Winter!
As we look ahead to today and then across the weekend, the weather forecast is again looking very good for beach goers – especially across the weekend with light and variable winds, cool to mild temperatures, and mostly sunny skies.
Today’s winds will be light to moderate with S/Se to E/SE winds forecast at 10 to 15 knots, before they then become very light across the weekend.
Tomorrow will bring very light and variable winds with S/SW to N/NE winds at only around 5 knots, before Sunday brings more light and variable winds with W/SW to N/NW winds at 5 to 10 knots.
Swimming
Swimming conditions have also been very good this week with the mostly light winds providing plenty of calm and gentle swimming conditions to enjoy.
These good swimming conditions will continue across the weekend, but you will just need to tolerate some slightly choppy conditions today thanks to some moderate onshore winds.
But once we get to the weekend you can expect plenty of sensational beach and swimming conditions thanks to the light and variable winds.
For today, the best beaches will be Agnes Water, Hervey Bay, Nielson Park and Moore Park, but then across the weekend you can expect all beaches to have great swimming conditions – especially through the mornings – but maybe Elliott Heads and Kelly’s Beach will be slightly better through the afternoons.
Best times for swimmers will be from early to mid-morning or again from mid to late afternoon.
Please check with the Lifeguard on duty, read any safety signage or messages, AND most importantly please swim only at patrolled beaches, only between the red and yellow flags, and only during patrol times – remember, if we can’t see you, we can’t save you!
Beach patrols
Today and weekdays – 9 am to 5 pm at Agnes Water only
Saturday and Sunday – 9 am to 5pm at Kelly’s Beach and Agnes Water only
Surfing
Not much wave action has been found across local beaches during the past week with just a few moments of small, clean waves to enjoy here and there.
The ocean has turned quite flat with that cool W/SW wind change yesterday.
The forecast for today and then across weekend is not looking great for surfers either, with just a slim chance of finding any quality waves to ride.
What waves there are, will be small, but hopefully clean, so maybe consider grabbing the long board or the SUP to find some fun through the early mornings. Good Luck.
For the SUP and Ocean Ski paddlers, there should be enough wind for a south to north downwind run today, but then across the weekend the ocean will be a great place to be for those looking for a gentle and relaxed paddle on the SUP or the surf ski.
Events
Good luck to local surf lifesavers competing this weekend at the WBC Branch Pool Rescue Championships in Rockhampton.
