The focus area for the etiquette campaign is the popular coastal pathway between Nielson Park and Christsen Park, Bargara.

Bundaberg Regional Council is taking steps to encourage courteous and safe use of shared pathways which in one prominent location will include pavement line marking and an awareness campaign.

The focus area for the etiquette campaign is the popular pathway between Nielson Park and Christsen Park, Bargara.

The initiative responds to a growing number of community concerns and requests to Council regarding improper use of the popular pathway which is shared by walkers, joggers, families, e-scooters and cyclists.

Temporary signage will also be installed along the route to support the campaign and serve as visual reminders to be a “polite pathway pal”.

Mayor Helen Blackburn said the messaging aimed to keep the pathway safe and enjoyable for all users.

“Whether you’re walking your dog, going for a ride, or enjoying a family stroll, a little courtesy goes a long way,” she said.

“We’re asking everyone to look out for one another and share the path respectfully.

“Council receives many customer requests about the use of shared pathways so we’re hoping that by creating conversations around positive pathway etiquette we can encourage greater awareness.”

Pathway etiquette reminders include:

  • Keep left unless overtaking
  • Keep dogs on short leads
  • Don’t block the path – walk in single file when busy
  • Be aware of others and reduce speed when necessary

“This pathway is a much-loved part of our coastline,” Mayor Blackburn said.

“These small reminders will help make it safer, more accessible and more enjoyable for everyone.”

The line marking, which will include keep left reminders and visual cues such as a snail to slow down when approaching turns is expected to be in place by late June 2025.
