CQUniversity Bundaberg is part of a scholarship initiative aimed at attracting and supporting students who wish to have a regional experience.

CQUniversity has welcomed funding for 40 Destination Australia scholarships that could attract and support students looking to move to the Bundaberg Region.

CQUniversity Vice-Chancellor Professor Nick Klomp said the initiative enabled CQUni to offer $15,000 scholarships to students studying at its campuses in Bundaberg, Cairns, Gladstone, Mackay, Rockhampton and Townsville.

“We know that students from overseas and capital cities who come to our CQUni regional campuses have a very special and successful journey, where they can make friends and prosper in their studies and career goals while enjoying access to the Aussie bush and coastline and the recreational opportunities that abound,” he said.

Across Australia, the Federal Government is offering 1180 Destination Australia scholarships worth $19.5 million, supporting students to study at a regional university or vocational education provider.

Minister for Education Dan Tehan said international education made a $35 billion contribution to the economy last year “and we want regional communities to share the benefits”.

“Increasing student numbers at regional education providers will give local economies a kick start and also help share the social, economic and cultural benefits of higher education,” he said.

“Regional Australia has a lot to offer as a study destination, including smaller class sizes, a cheaper cost of living as well as the people and the lifestyle.”

Students can apply directly to institutions for the Destination Australia scholarship.
