Well, it has been a pretty good week of weather across the local region with mostly sunny skies, warm temperatures and only light to moderate winds.
As we look ahead to today and across the weekend, the forecast is quite similar.
We are looking at light winds through the mornings that will then become light to moderate through the afternoons, and also swinging from the north on the weekend, with more warm temperatures and the increasing chance of scattered showers on both Saturday and Sunday.
This morning’s winds will be from the S/SE at 10 to 15 knots before they swing more from the E/SE to E through the afternoon.
Tomorrow morning will then bring super-light N/NE winds at only about 5 knots before they increase to 10 to 15 knots through the afternoon.
Sunday will then bring light and variable W/NW to W/SW winds in the morning at around 10 knots, before they turn more N/NE and just a touch stronger through the afternoon (10+ knots).
Swimming
Swimming conditions have been ok this past week without being great, with plenty of waves about to ensure there was lots of water movement to keep the swimmers on their toes.
Looking ahead to today and across the weekend, we can expect reasonable swimming conditions for the most part, and especially so through the mornings while those winds are lighter.
Both tomorrow morning and Sunday morning, in particular, are looking good for swimmers with only light winds forecast.
The afternoons will bring afternoon sea breezes, along with slightly choppier conditions so just be mindful of this.
The best time for a swim will be from early to mid and even late morning while the tide is high, and the winds are lighter.
Best beaches for today will be Agnes Water, Hervey Bay, Nielson Park Beach and Moore Park Beach, but across the weekend when the northerly winds arrive, the best beaches will certainly be Elliott Heads and Kelly’s Beach.
There will still be a bit of water movement as the tide drops from mid/late morning onwards, so just be careful if swimming.
Please check with the lifesavers or lifeguard on duty, read any safety signage or messages, and most importantly please swim only at patrolled beaches, only between the red and yellow flags, and only during patrol times – remember, if we can’t see you, we can’t save you!
Today: 9 am to 5 pm at Kelly’s Beach and Agnes Water only
Saturday: 9 am to 5 pm at Kelly’s Beach, Nielsen Park Beach, Oaks Beach and Agnes Water, 1 to 5 pm at Elliott Heads and Moore Park Beach.
Sunday: 9 am to 5 pm at Elliott Heads, Kelly’s Beach, Nielson Park Beach, Oaks Beach, Moore Park Beach and Agnes Water.
Surfing
Once again, there has been plenty of swell about this past week for board riders to enjoy, with fun-sized waves across almost all beaches for most of the week, but we will unfortunately see wave heights decrease quickly through today and across the weekend – particularly as the northerly winds set in through Saturday and into Sunday.
Try this morning and the weekend early mornings as well for a small, clean wave, but then the waves will disappear quickly across the weekend – and more so when the northerly winds arrive.
Agnes Water, Nielson Park Beach, Mon Repos and Moore Park Beach will be the better options today, but don’t rule out Kelly’s Beach and Elliott Heads across the weekend.
Good Luck.
For the SUP and ocean ski paddlers chasing a downwind paddle, there is not a lot of wind forecast, but both Saturday and Sunday afternoon could provide enough for a north to south run.
For those looking for a more relaxed and gentler paddle in the ocean make sure you hit the beach early on both Saturday and Sunday morning for some milder conditions.
Events
Good luck to local surf lifesavers that will be competing in the 2025 WBC Branch Senior Championships at Bundaberg Surf Life Saving Club tomorrow.
