Long term supporter joins playhouse fundraiser

Long term Playhouse Theatre stalwart Jenny Duffy has sponsored a number of seats in the Playhouse Theatre’s fundraising campaign, BUTTS (Bundaberg Updates Tired Theatre Seating).

Jenny’s involvement with the Playhouse started in the audience, but then moved to the stage.

“Since the 1980s I have enjoyed watching many wonderful productions as a patron of the Bundaberg Playhouse Theatre,” she said.

“I joined as an active member in 2012 and have thoroughly enjoyed treading the boards in many plays and musicals myself, and also watching other productions from the auditorium.

“I am always delighted to see the wholehearted support from the public in Bundaberg and the region, who come to enjoy the local, live entertainment.

“They are the reason we perform!”

Jenny thinks the new seating will be a massive boost to The Playhouse Theatre and patrons.

“The comfortable new seating will be a great reward to the many valued and loyal patrons who have supported Bundaberg Playhouse Theatre for a long time,” Jenny said.

“Hopefully some patrons who have been unable to come along will also be able to enjoy our productions in the future. I am looking forward to seeing all the smiling faces in the auditorium!”

The BUTTS campaign is going well, with over $53,000 of the $100,000 total now donated through the Australian Cultural Fund, with all donations tax deductible.

“By donating to our auditorium upgrade project, donors will be directly contributing to the future of the Arts in our community,” Bundaberg Players Inc President Nigel Dick said.

“Their support will allow us to continue offering top-quality performances in a comfortable and welcoming environment for years to come.

“More importantly, donors are helping to ensure that everyone, regardless of ability or background, has the opportunity to enjoy the Arts in Bundaberg”.

There are a number of sponsorship levels for organisations, individuals and families wanting to support the fundraiser.

Those interested can email the theatre at secretary@bpi.org.au to obtain a prospectus.

“Our goal is to raise the necessary funds by 31 May 2025 so we can ensure the refurbishment of the Helen & Skipper Cattermull Auditorium occurs in sufficient time for new seating to be installed in August 2025,” Nigel said.

“That gives us less than two months to reach our fundraising total of $100,000 so we are asking for everyone’s support.

“How exciting it will be to have this project completed in time for our 75 Anniversary celebrations in 2026.”
