Bundaberg & District Australian Filipino Association Incorporated (BDAFAI) members came together this month to celebrate two momentous occasions: Philippine Independence Day and the 41st anniversary of the association’s founding.
Lorena Ravalo, President of the BDAFAI, had this to say about the celebration and the BDAFAI:
What were the main activities at this event?
Our festivals are a vibrant tapestry of colour, music, dance and faith through traditional dances inspired by the parade of Philippine festivals.
At the event, there was Philippine dancing, singing and a special guest appearance by the Philippine p-pop start Joshua Adornado from Yes My Love.
How can community members get involved and stay updated?
You can stay updated by following our BDAFAI facebook page.
We are also on the Council’s community directory and have meetings every second Saturday of each month.
Community members can join as a member by emailing our secretary bdafai.secretary.2011@gmail.com

What is the history of this event and what is your vision for its future?
Members, committees and visitors have been a part of this beautiful community for the past 41 years.
It is remarkable to see how the association has grown over the years, becoming a pillar of unity and cultural pride for the Filipino-Australians in Bundaberg and its surroundings.
As president, I wish to continue encouraging everyone to support BDAFAI.
Their enthusiasm and contributors make it possible to organise events like this.
Let us keep this tradition alive for generations to come.
Is there anything else you would like to share?
We are celebrating 41 years of friendship here in Bundaberg, let us take pride in our history and in the bonds we share as a community.
Together we honour the past, celebrate the present and look forward to a bright and united future.
Mabuhay BDAFAI! (welcome and happy BDAFAI)
