Explore historical fiction with Frank Castle

Frank Castle will host an Author Talk at the Bundaberg Library later this month.

Step back in time with local writer Frank Castle as he hosts an author talk to discuss his book The Cursed Spirit: The Wandering Soul.

This free event will take place on at the Bundaberg Library on Tuesday 29 July at 10.30 am.

Frank Castle answered the following questions about his upcoming author talk:

Can you tell us a bit about your book and what readers can expect?

The Cursed Spirit: The Wandering Soul is the first book in a trilogy that explores the journey of a soul caught in the eternal cycle of rebirth.

Readers can expect a rich tapestry of historical fiction told through the eyes of a spirit who has lived countless lives across different eras and regions of the world.

The book begins with the soul’s first life as the child of King William the Conqueror, and the story follows the soul as it is rebirthed over time.

Shaped by royalty, politics, war, captivity, and enduring human connections the soul pursuing a relentless quest for purpose and belonging.

How would you describe your writing style and readership?

My writing style leans toward third-person narration, which allows me to paint vivid, immersive scenes.

I love exploring the thoughts and emotions of my characters and enjoy weaving poetic analogies throughout the story.

There’s something powerful about language that not only tells a tale but invites deeper reflection.

By blending my passion for history with fiction, I aim to craft narratives that inspire curiosity – particularly among young adult readers.

I hope my books encourage them to research, question, and compare the historical elements in the story with real events, sparking a lifelong interest in both literature and history.

What can attendees expect from your author talk?

Attendees can expect an open, honest and informative session.

I want to inspire other aspiring writers by sharing my journey – one that didn’t begin with a strong academic background, as I left school in Year 10.

After serving 12 years in the army, writing became a powerful outlet for me.

It helped support my mental health and gave voice to experiences I hadn’t fully processed.

I’ll talk about what inspired The Cursed Spirit, and the process of bringing the story to life.

I’ll also share insights into the publishing world – how I found a publisher and what I’ve learned about the pros and cons of different publishing options.

Most importantly, I want the talk to feel like a conversation.

Attendees are welcome to ask anything – from my writing process to character development or my personal experiences as a first-time author.

This is my first time doing something like this, and I’m genuinely excited to connect with readers and share the story behind the story.

Why should local readers support Australian authors?

I strongly believe Australians should support not only local authors, but the incredible talent we have across all creative industries.

We’re a nation full of rich, unique stories and voices that deserve to be heard.

Personally, I feel a deep sense of gratitude toward the community that has supported me.

When you support a local author, you’re helping create a cycle of contribution that uplifts the entire community.
