This August the Pain Revolution Rural Outreach Tour returns – riding through regional Queensland from Bundaberg to Caloundra.

This extraordinary initiative brings together scientists, health professionals and people with lived pain experience, all cycling over 800km to educate and empower rural communities in understanding chronic pain.

At each stop, the team will host free community events filled with science-based insights, practical tools, and connection – with the aim of transforming lives and reshaping the nation’s understanding of chronic pain.

Evidence clearly shows that enabling and empowering people with a modern understanding of chronic pain is the start, and critical step towards recovery.

About Pain Revolution

The organisation is on a mission to make sure all Australians have access to the knowledge, skills and local support to prevent and overcome chronic pain.

“We’re passionate about changing the way Australia understands and responds to pain – and we believe that change starts with conversation, connection, and community,” Pain Revolution CEO Lorimer Moseley AO said.

“The Pain Revolution’s mission is to share this knowledge and to empower people to return to the activities and life they want but at the moment can’t get to because of chronic pain.

“We all know someone in this situation and it’s time to get moving, together, to reduce the impact of what is currently humanity’s most disabling health condition.”

Why it matters

Chronic pain affects 1 in 5 Australians and rates are significantly higher in rural areas where access to pain education and treatment is often limited.

Pain Revolution is committed to bridging this gap by sharing the latest pain science, empowering self-management and building local networks of support.

Through engaging talks, Q&A sessions and hands-on activities including the travelling Brain Bus mobile lab, participants will gain tools to take control of their pain and recovery.

Whether you live with pain, care for someone who does, or work in healthcare, Pain Revolution’s Rural Outreach Tour is designed to connect you with practical, hopeful, and inspiring strategies.

Events will be tailored to both community members and health professionals, building pain literacy and collaboration at every stop.

Hear from one of our riders

Laura Cannell, returning for her third tour said she came into contact with the Pain Revolution in 2019 when they rode through Tasmania.

“I had been experiencing several years of spiralling chronic pain following a brain haemorrhage and a traffic accident while cycling,” she said.

“I was also dealing with the cumulative trauma of 20 years as a police officer, and I was in a pretty dark place.

“After years of going nowhere with medications and interventions, I decided to ‘give this pain education thing a go.

“Over the following year, I absorbed the fundamentals of pain education and worked with Local Pain Educators.

“I was able to understand and reduce my pain and get control of my life.

“It sounds cliché, but the Pain Revolution initiative changed my life.

“I ride to give back and to show others that there’s hope. Plus, I really like riding my bike!”

Partnerships driving change

The 2025 Tour is made possible through generous support and collaboration:

  • Country to Coast Queensland (CCQ) 2025 Platinum Sponsor, demonstrating strong commitment to improving rural health outcomes.
  • The University of South Australia (UniSA) has proudly supported every Rural Outreach Tour since its inception. As a foundational partner, UniSA contributes research leadership and academic expertise that underpin Pain Revolution’s evidence-based mission.

Together, these partnerships enable a national movement toward pain literacy and lasting community change.
