Sounds of Rock coming to Burnett Heads in May

National acts like Thirsty Merc, Daryl Braithwaite and Ross Wilson will be performing at Sounds of Rock.

Plans are well and truly underway for the Sounds of Rock music festival, with headline acts including Daryl Braithwaite and Thirsty Merc coming to the region in May.

Local man and NUI Events spokesperson Trevor Sands is behind the event and said through a partnership with the Burnett Heads Lighthouse Hotel, a new location in the coastal area would host the first-time festival.

“The festival will be held on Saturday, 8 May right beside the Lighthouse Hotel in Burnett Heads,” he said.

“With their help we have been able to secure a beautiful block of land and we are currently working to transform it into something fantastic for the region.

“It is a blank canvas at the moment but it won't stay that way for long.”

Mr Sands said event-goers could expect one big “party atmosphere” at the festival, with national acts like Daryl Braithwaite, Thirsty Merc, Black Sorrows and Ross Wilson to take to the stage.

“We are so very stoked with this line up and it really caters for everyone,” he said.

“So many of us grew up on this music – and we can’t wait to see everyone enjoying live music at its best!”

Mr Sands said Sounds of Rock had been nearly two years in the making and was born from a desire to bring a live music event straight to the community.

“Our goal is to bring major and quality events to the Bundaberg Region that may boost the tourism economy,” he said.

“Most Bundaberg and surrounding region music fans have had to travel over four hours to Brisbane to attend this type of festival, so this will mean a lot to everyone.

“We’ve invited some of the best artists in the country and can’t wait to put on an incredible show for all the Bundaberg music-lovers.”

Mr Sands said local musician Abby Skye would also be on stage during the festival to keep the audience entertained.

“When we were thinking about a local muso to play at the event Abby Skye came to mind straight away,” he said.

“She has played before with Daryl Braithwaite and I know she is very excited to be up on that big stage.”

Mr Sands said community support for Sounds of Rock had so far been outstanding, with ticket sales going strong.

“It's been so successful already that we are even starting talks about who we are bringing to the festival next year,” he said.

“We will have food vendors, local business and community groups all coming on board, all you have to do is bring a chair, sit down, relax and have a fantastic day enjoying the entertainment.”

Tickets to Sounds of Rock cost $99 and are available at oztix.com.au as well as the Lighthouse Hotel and Bout Time Music.

  1. As a resident of Burnett Heads, we live 100 metres from the pub. We were NOT consulted about this “festival”! I, as well as my neighbours, do NOT approve of the extremely LOUD music that literally shakes our houses and rattles our window as it did in 2019’s street festival outside the pub. Why don’t you inconsiderate people move it to the huge block of land over near the Burnett Heads marina AWAY from local residents??? More room for parking, stage & audience, food vendors and the likes! Consider the LOCALS BEFORE your bloody wallets!!!! NOT HAPPY!!!!!!
