In Our Group with Cane Country Squares

Do-si-do your way to fun with Cane Country Squares. Publicity Officer Joanne Read said square dancing was a fun social activity for families, couples or singles.

Tell us about Cane Country Squares?

Cane Country Squares is a modern Square Dance Club, which celebrated 40 years of dancing in Bundaberg this year.

The Rum City Band Hall at 89 Targo St has been the club’s home since 2014 with the club dancing here every week from February until December.

Square Dancing is a fun social activity for families, couples, or singles and suits ages from eight to active 80s.

It’s a great form of low impact physical exercise while also exercising the mind.

Who can get involved?

Learner classes are designed to start out easy and get you up and dancing in 12 weeks with the first three weeks open to come and try.

No special outfits are required, just comfortable shoes and a desire to learn.

Once you graduate to our local club night dances, we have no strict dress rules.

Members dance in anything from casual clothes through to simple modern square dance outfits, alongside the old school, traditional outfits with ladies wearing 1950s era fluffy petticoats.

Rockabilly or vintage fashion also fits in well.

For a bit of added fun, regular theme nights are also part of our local social dancing.

There are no competitions but for those looking for more challenges you can also advance your skills by continuing with further programs.

What events are on during the year?

Our next Learner Program starts 6.30 pm to 8.30 pm, Tuesday 12 September through to the 5 December.

The first three Tuesday nights are open to ‘Come and Try’ and your first session is free.

If you like the idea of dressing up and meeting new people, larger dance events are also held through the year, inviting other clubs to dance with us or some of us travel to other regions to dance at other clubs.
