The completion of the final stage of the Multiplex over 12 months ago is paying dividends for the region with the world-class facility hosting a range of major events.

From sporting championships to gala dinners, event organisers are taking advantage of the versatile venue.

More than 100 young athletes from across the state will converge on the region in June when the Multiplex hosts the 10-12 Years Queensland Schools Netball Championships.

Multiplex major events
Completion of the Multiplex has enabled Bundaberg to host major events.

Convenor Kellie Hanson said the competition would feature 144 players making up 12 teams from regions throughout Queensland.

The last time Bundaberg hosted the competition was in 2009.

“With access to the Multiplex this year, we have all-weather indoor surface courts, electronic scoreboards, more toilet and changeroom facilities, meeting rooms for our officials and umpires and state of the art canteen facilities,” Ms Hanson said.

“Utilising the facilities on offer at the Multiplex – PA system, posts and pads, canteen, office space – certainly helps with the smooth running of a carnival of this nature.

“The carnival is to select a Queensland team to compete at the national titles later in the year.”

Until the construction of Multiplex, we had not been able to secure a venue that accommodated the needs of the full production — Master Builders Wide Bay Burnett regional manager Ian Langer

After taking out the Wide Bay and State 2018 Master Builders Association of Queensland Community Service Facility awards the Multiplex will also host the best of the building industry at the Wide Bay Burnett Housing and Construction Awards in 2019.

Master Builders Wide Bay Burnett regional manager Ian Langer said the availability of the purpose-built facility contributed to the decision.

“Our intentions have been to host an awards night in Bundaberg given our strong and ever-increasing membership in this great city,” Mr Langer said.

“Until the construction of Multiplex, we had not been able to secure a venue that accommodated the needs of the full production.

“It’s great to be able to bring the awards back to Bundaberg and showcase the incredible work of the Wide Bay Burnett region.

The $30 million Multiplex was purpose-built in 2017 to cater for all sports, events, conference and meeting requirements, small and large.

The centre offers maximum flexibility, state-of-the-art facilities and professional in-house services all under the one roof.

The unique multi-purpose design of the Multiplex provides an extensive range of spaces and configurations which can be tailored for events.

The Exhibition Hall is a 100m2 flat -loor event space suitable for conferences and events, with function rooms available for individual hire and as breakout rooms; while the foyer and bar area provides an on-site option for welcome receptions.
