The Bundaberg Region has ideas worth spreading and this September they’ll be streamed to the world after a bid to host a TEDx event was approved.

Bundaberg will be one of the few regional centres in Australia to host an event which has a broad range of speaking talent from various industries and backgrounds.

Representatives from several organisations, led by CQUniversity, have been working towards securing an official TEDx event.

This is scheduled to take place on Friday, 20 September 2019 at the Moncrieff Entertainment Centre.

CQUniversity’s Associate Vice-Chancellor for Wide Bay Burnett and TEDx Bundaberg organising committee chair, Luke Sinclair, said he was excited to work with a talented group of locals.

“Our organising committee includes reps from Bundaberg Regional Council, the Bundaberg Business Enterprise Centre, Bundaberg Fruit and Vegetable Growers, Bundaberg Tourism, the Chamber of Commerce, the Generator, Greensill Farming, Southern Cross Austereo, The Neighbourhood Centre, and local schools,” Mr Sinclair said.

“We have been working together since last year to gain approvals and licensing from TED to hold the event, and we are now excited to be locking in local and national speakers who will inspire our audience and generate ideas.

“This is a major milestone for the region and a great way for people of all ages and backgrounds to come together, gain knowledge, and think about their impact on others and the community more broadly.

“We are really confident that people will come away from this event and feel motivated to make a difference in our community.”

What exactly is TEDx?

TEDx is an ideas factory. It's a global program brought to life by thousands of individuals all over the world.

It focuses on the power discussing ideas to change lives and ultimately, the world.

TED is a non-profit organisation devoted to spreading ideas, usually in the form of short, powerful talks (18 minutes or less).

TED began in 1984 as a conference where technology, entertainment and design converged, and today covers almost all topics — from science to business to global issues — in more than 100 languages.

TEDx events are run to help share ideas in communities around the world.

Some TEDx videos have been viewed by 57 million views — that’s twice the population of Australia.

No idea too big or too small

One of the top viewed TEDx videos on YouTube is Beatbox Brilliance by Tom Thum.

Armed with just a microphone, Thum pushes the limits of the human voice to create incredible soundtracks of impossible beats and phenomenal sounds in a video that has been viewed almost 70 million times.

Could Bundaberg be harbouring the next Thum?
