There was enthusiastic applause on Friday night at The Playhouse Theatre, but there wasn’t a play on stage – the applause was for the Launch of Bundaberg Players’ 2020 Season.

President Nigel Dick and the directors of each production outlined an action-packed year of top entertainment, with something for everyone.

First production for 2020 will be “Mama Mia”, the hit musical, directed by Bex Hutchins and Jenny Haack, with 12 performances from 20 March.

This will be followed by laugh-a-minute mayhem in “‘Allo ‘Allo”, directed by Nigel Dick from 19 June.

Shakespeare will be returning to the Playhouse stage in September with the ever-popular “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”, directed by Di Wills.

There’ll then be laughs and tears with “Secret Bridesmaids’ Business” in October, directed by Peg Gellert and Cheryl Ratcliffe.

Pantomime will then make a welcome return to the Playhouse stage in December with “Robin Hood & Babes in the Wood”, directed by Bex Hutchins and Christie McLucas.

As well as these productions, which are part of the 2020 Subscription Season, there will be three other very special shows.

Bundaberg Youth Theatre celebrates its 50th anniversary with two gala productions at the Moncrieff Entertainment Centre on 11 July.

From 30 April, Brayden Rewald and Jenny Haack will direct “Beyond the Neck” – a script-in-hand production at Oodies Café – giving us a glimpse of the Port Arthur Massacre.

And in July the Bundaberg Players’ 2020 Interns will present A History of Comedy, which is sure to be a side-splitter if last night’s preview from the talented interns is anything to go by.

Subscriptions for 2020 are now open at a cost of $80 until 31 January 2020 and $90 from 1 February and can now be made online.
