The Italian-Australian community celebrate the Italian Consul's visit with a social meeting on Saturday

The Italian-Australian community will celebrate the Italian Consul’s visit this Saturday, 29 February at a social meeting with a distinctly Italian flavour.

Salvatore Napolitano, Consul of Italy for Queensland and the Northern Territory, will be in the Bundaberg region meeting with residents.

The cultural highlight will be the Italian-Australian Community Social Meeting, to be held at The Waves Sports Club this Saturday from 2.15pm to 3.30 followed by light refreshments.

Gabriela Corridore, Honorary Consular Correspondent of the Italian Consulate of Brisbane for the Wide Bay region, said it will be a wonderful chance for the Italian-Australian community to get together in a social setting.

“We are having some excellent guest speakers, including the Consul of Italy for Queensland and the Northern Territory Mr Salvatore Napolitano and some wonderful entertainment,” she said.

The Voice D’Italia Choir will be performing five songs: the Italian national anthem Fratelli d’Italia, the Australian national anthem Advance Australia Fair, Trevisani nel Mondo, Sul Cappello and Terra Straniera.

The Voice D’Italia Choir is celebrating their 23rd year and has around 20 members, most of whom are Italian born.

They pride themselves on maintaining their Italian culture and influence, with many songs in their repertoire sung in the Italian language.

“They are always very popular, featuring around 20 beautiful voices.”

RSVPs aren’t required for Saturday’s meeting of the Italian-Australian community.

However, it is recommended that guests arrive by 2pm, ready for a 2.15pm start.
