This year’s Queensland Variety Bash will be sponsored by Bundaberg Regional Council after an event reshuffle saw the region take the title of host town.

Mayor Jack Dempsey said as host of the 2020 Variety Bash Adventure the Bundaberg Region would see an economic boost which Variety estimated was worth up to $180,000.

“Three hundred rally participants in one hundred cars will call the Bundaberg Region home for three days before setting out on their adventure,” Mayor Dempsey said.

“This will no doubt be a delight for residents to see and provide a boost to the hospitality and tourism industry locally while interstate travel remains restricted.

“We also hope our involvement in this event and the subsequent media coverage across the state will translate into increased drive tourism for a long-term benefit.”

In its Council meeting on August 25, Council agreed to provide $20,000 to support the 2020 Variety Bash.

Variety Bash to boost economy and profile

Community services spokesperson Cr John Learmonth said Council was pleased to support the high-profile event which would promote the Bundaberg Region on a state and national stage.

“The annual Variety Bash is a wonderful fundraiser which supports Queensland children and their families and the Bundaberg Region is proud to host the event this year,” Cr Learmonth said.

“Not only will it place a spotlight on our beautiful part of the world but it will also create fundraising opportunities for local causes.

“While in town Variety Bash participants are hoping to raise enough money for Bundaberg State High School to purchase a 50-seater bus that will assist with the school’s IGNITE program.”

IGNITE is a transition to work program which assists at-risk youth to attend an offsite learning location.

The annual Variety Bash rally for 2020 was planned to commence in Winton this month but, due to coronavirus restrictions, will now leave from Bundaberg on 9 November.

After starting in Bundaberg the rally will conclude in Noosa on 14 November 2020.

The Variety Bash Adventure is a combined bash and 4WD event, where all vehicle types are welcome, travelling through some of the most amazing outback and coastal scenery Australia has to offer, all in the name of helping Aussie kids in need.
