Buy a banger and help vital services

RFDS Auxiliary president Carolyn Saffron and Rotary Club secretary Matt Griffiths get ready for the free movie night at Alexandra Park this Friday.

People attending Friday’s Free Outdoor Movie Night at Alexandra Park can help two vital community services simply by buying food or drinks.

Tickets are no longer available but organisers are urging everyone who has one to turn up and support the fundraiser.

Hosted by the Rotary Club of Bundaberg, the movie Arthur Christmas will be screened. There will also be a sausage sizzle and drinks on sale with proceeds to go to Volunteer Marine Rescue Queensland Bundaberg the Royal Flying Doctor Service Bundaberg Auxiliary.

Rotary Club secretary Matt Griffiths said the services would benefit significantly if all who attended lined up for the sausage sizzle as their dinner that night.

He hoped that the community’s desire to show the Christmas spirit and help VMR Bundaberg and the RFDS Bundaberg Auxiliary would encourage ticketholders to attend on the night.

The club’s previous movie night, held in November to raise funds to help eradicate polio, drew a smaller than expected audience with many not using the tickets they had secured.

“Of the 500 free tickets we ‘sold’ for the first movie night, only 190 people turned up,” Matt said.

“I know some people would have genuine reasons for not being able to make it, but when others grab the tickets and then decide not to go, they’re preventing others from being able to attend and help these worthy causes.”

The Free Outdoor Movie Night is an Australian Government bushfire recovery initiative.
