Five schools finalist in Showcase Awards

Congratulations to the following schools and individuals selected as the 2021 Showcase Awards for Excellence in Schools state finalists

Five local primary schools have been named finalists in the 2021 Showcase Awards for Excellence in Schools by the Department of Education.

The awards showcase Queensland state schools that are both significantly improving student outcomes and bringing State Schools Improvement Strategy to life.

They also recognise dedicated teachers, principals, leadership teams and school communities.

Named in the Network 10 Showcase Award for Excellence in the Early and Primary Years is North Coast Curriculum Leaders, local schools included Woongarra State School, Bundaberg West State School, Childers State School, Walkervale State School, and Bundaberg East State School.

Announcing the state finalist Education Minister Grace Grace said they had been chosen for innovative and effective ways of improving student outcomes.

“The Showcase Awards are all about shining a spotlight on our dedicated teachers, principals, leadership teams and school communities who are setting our students up for success,” she said.  

“In 2021, we received 94 nominations from 125 state schools, impacting more than 50,000 Queensland state school students.

“I commend the regional winners and all of the entrants this year for taking the time to share their amazing examples of quality education.

“I wish all our finalists the very best.

Ms Grace said the finalists had been chosen in 10 categories, ranging from excellence in inclusive education and school leadership, to rural and remote education.

“During these testing times with COVID-19, it’s important to acknowledge the work our schools are doing to give all students access to a world-class education,” she said.

“We have seen time and again over the last 18 months the dedication of our state school teachers and principals, particularly when it comes to remote learning.

“I couldn’t be prouder of our Queensland state schools.”

To become a finalist these local school had to recognise initiatives that demonstrated positive outcomes and measurable improvement for young children and students from kindergarten to Year 6.

The initiatives had to focus on one or more of the following areas: systematic curriculum delivery, effective pedagogical practices, student learning and wellbeing or engaging students as active learners.

The 2021 Showcase Awards for Excellence in Schools presentation event will be live streamed on Friday 29 October 2021.

This special broadcast will see the announcement of the state award winners and will celebrate the outstanding programs and initiatives being delivered by our Queensland state schools.
