Local resident launches first book of new series

Starting out as just ideas written in a notebook, local Bundaberg resident Shannon Figallo has completed her first novel of her new series, The Rising, with a book signing at Dymocks Bundaberg on 30 October.

Starting out as just ideas written down in a notebook has transformed into local Bundaberg resident Shannon Figallo's first novel, The Rising.

Shannon will be hosting a book signing at Dymocks Bundaberg on Saturday 30 October

After spending a lot of time reading, Shannon decided that she would begin to put her own ideas to paper two years ago, which has now turned into what will be a series of books called Retribution.

Although she didn’t enjoy writing during high school, Shannon said she has developed her own style over time.

“I have always enjoyed reading, although I didn’t enjoy writing in high school for English as it was too structured,” she said.

“This book is written in a way where you get both of the main characters points of view.”

The series follows the main character Elizabeth as she navigates her way through suffering and trauma to rebuilding her life for a fresh start.

Shannon said the book would be relatable to many and she hoped people would enjoy reading it as much as she enjoyed writing it.

“I have written this book as closely as possible to be based on what can happen in real life and helping people to gain awareness on what is happening out there,” she said.

“It is sensationalised a little bit but it is a good read – something you can sit down and enjoy.”

Shannon has worked with publishing agent Rachel Bermingham to bring the story to life and plans to have the second book in the series out by the end of the year.

She said the demographic for the book was aimed at males and females over 18 years of age.

The Rising will be stocked at Dymocks Bundaberg as well as online through Shannon’s Facebook and website.

The official signing is on Saturday 30 October 2021 at Dymocks Bundaberg from 10am – 12pm.
