BUNDABERG OFFSHORE
The reef fishing last weekend really turned it on!
The standout fish was definitely the red emperor. Plenty were caught around 10kg.
With the smaller tides again this weekend the deep should be on.
Remember to fish with big flesh baits when fishing the deeper water.
Let the smaller fish play with it then hook in once you get the big load up.
Ensure to check the weather report before heading out.
BUNDABERG INSHORE
The schoolie mackerel have come in thick on all the inshore reefs over the past week.
Fast retrieving flasha spoons up from the bottom and floating pilchards out the back will get you into the action.
Stay away from using wire traces while chasing schoolies, I usually only use 60lb fluro carbon leader.
There is some cracking grunter being caught as well, mostly being caught on 5” soft plastics.
If your more into using bait, squid and prawns will be the go.
THE BURNETT RIVER
With the water starting to warm up, the summer species are starting to come out to play.
Working soft vibes around structure towards the town reach is a great way to start targeting the barramundi.
One hour either side of low tide has always been my favourite bite time there.
Some very nice sized prawns have been getting caught in the deeper holes in the Burnett as well, again one hour either side of low tide is the hot time to target them.
THE KOLAN RIVER AND BAFFLE CREEK
The mangrove jack have definitely started to chew in these two systems over the past week.
Slow rolling 3” Zman Minnowz out of the mangroves and rock bars has been doing the trick.
If your more into bait fishing, setting live sprat and poddy mullet is a real effective technique.
There’s been some very good quality mud crabs being caught as well so be sure to drop the pots in.
LAKE MONDURAN
Lake Monduran is getting very exciting now.
With the water warming up the barra’s are getting more active and a few anglers have gotten lucky enough to catch some trophy barra up to 110cm!
Fishing the windblown shallow bays where the water has been the warmest has been the place to be.
The Zerek live mullets has been the standout lure to use.
Remember to fish with confidence, you never know when that trophy barra is going to hit your lure!
Till next time, keep it real
