The Lakes community are hosting an art and woodcraft exhibition this Saturday.

Members of The Lakes community will come together to host an Art and Woodcraft exhibition this Saturday, showcasing their talents through a collection of handmade pieces.

There will be plenty to see, with three years’ worth of work making up the exhibition after the previous event was cancelled due to Covid.

The art group has worked in conjunction with the villages Men's Shed to incorporate woodcraft into this year's exhibition.

The Lakes resident, co-host and artist Di Jacobs said the group hoped that people from the wider community enjoyed what was on offer.

“We hope people will enjoy the exhibition and they can see anything is achievable as well as the beauty in art,” Di said.

“Art is a fantastic social event that brings people together in both ours and the broader community.

“This exhibition is a fantastic opportunity for people to see what local talent The Lakes has on offer and also provides an opportunity to visit our village.”

Di said there were a number of artists who were showcasing their work in the exhibition, including a range of woodcraft pieces.

“We have seven artists contributing this year and the woodcraft section will be made up of 28 different pieces,” she said.

“I am looking forward to seeing the joy that comes from our artists and woodcrafters being able showcase their talents and hard work.”

Di said when she started a painting group at The Lakes she thought an exhibition would be a great event for the community to become involved in.

She has since worked with Lendlease to turn this dream into a reality.

“Five years ago I started a painting group and decided it would be nice to have an exhibition for our pieces,” Di said.

“When I approached our Village Manager, Lesley, for support she happily agreed and she and Lendlease have supported us with this event and all our efforts.”

There will be a range of pieces available for purchase at the exhibition which is open from 10am to 4pm on Saturday at The Lakes.

Attendance must be registered with the village office via phone on 07 4150 7500 by 5pm Friday.

  1. So many new residents & holiday makers who have no idea what street or suburb the Lakes is in. The omission happens so often especially in TV advertising.
