Affordable school uniforms, booklist stationery and free haircuts will be available for Bundaberg families to make the most of when School Savvy opens the doors to its back-to-school pop-up shops on Monday.

CentacareCQ’s Shari Jackson, who coordinates the Bundaberg pop-up shops, said that with a new venue for 2022 the team were looking forward to getting even more local kids ready for school year than ever before.

“This will be our third year opening the Bundaberg pop-up shop, but first time that we’ll be set up at the Recreational Precinct,” Shari said.

“The new space is very open and airy, which is really helpful for social distancing and for helping to keep everyone as COVID-safe as possible.

“Every year we see such huge demand for this program and we’re anticipating that the demand will be even greater this year.

“We’re prepared to support as many local school kids as we can.”

Providing essential back-to-school resources for kids is something that Shari says the CentacareCQ team feel particularly passionate about.

“For us it’s about making sure that kids not only get back to school with what they need, but also that they have the exact same things that their mates do,” Shari said.

“It’s hard enough being a kid in today’s day and age, and going to school feeling different or left out isn’t ideal for a child’s confidence or self-esteem.

“By helping to provide them with access to the right uniform, the right stationery supplies, and a nice fresh haircut, we’re able to help parents and caregivers worry about a few less things.”

The Bundaberg pop-up shop will open on January 10 at 8am and will be open right throughout the week until January 14.

For the first time, Gin Gin and Childers will also have dedicated pop-up shops opening on January 11 and January 13 respectively.

“This is our first year taking the pop-up shops to Gin Gin and Childers, which we’re really excited about,” Shari said.

“We’ll be opening our Gin Gin pop-up shop on January 11 from 9am at the Gin Gin State School, and our Childers pop-up shop on January 13 from 9am at the Isis State High School Sports Stadium.”
