Hundreds of bright and magnificent orchids will be in full bloom for the annual Bundaberg Orchid Society’s Mother’s Day Show in May.

The three-day event has flourished in the Bundaberg Region for decades, showcasing orchids that are locally grown and others that travel from around the country to be displayed.

Bundaberg Orchid Society publicity officer Deborah Shield said they expected hundreds of orchids, in an arrangement of spectacular colour, to be on display this year.

“That’s one of the beauties of growing orchids, you actually don’t know what it’s going to be like until it comes out,” Deborah said.

“About a week out from the show people will know what is going to open and bloom.”

Hosting the annual event on the Mother’s Day weekend provides community members a chance to take the special mum in their life along to view the splendid blooms.

“We’ve held the show for more than 20 years and it is always quite popular,” she said.

Hosting the annual event on the Mother’s Day weekend provides community members a chance to take the special mum in their life along to view the splendid blooms.

“Last year we were inundated because of Covid-19 the previous year, and we moved away from display rows and introduced tables and benches, so people can move and walk freely around to see and take in each individual orchid.

“We purchased a nice cane chair with an archway over the top, that we have surrounded with beautiful orchids, so it is a fantastic opportunity to take mum along to have a photo in the set up.

“The whole set up has changed and it’s going to look very beautiful.”

Bundaberg Orchid Society’s Mother’s Day Show is one of the largest displays in Queensland, providing an opportunity to not only find out a vast amount of information about growing orchids, but also the chance to purchase one of the beautiful species.

Bundaberg Orchid Society’s Mother’s Day Show will be open Friday 6 May from 8 am to 4 pm, Saturday 7 May from 8 am to 4 pm and Sunday 8 May from 8 am to 1 pm.

Entry $2 for adults and free for children. To find out more check out the Facebook page.
