The Bundaberg Community Kindergarten is hosting a celebration of its 51st birthday in conjunction with Under 8s Day next week with the whole community invited along to the festivities.

The free event will see Bundaberg Community Kindergarten open to the public from 10 am to 2 pm, with the official ceremony and Welcome to Country to follow at 1 pm.

While the kindergarten was looking forward to celebrating 50 years in 2021, the Covid-pandemic caused staff to postpone celebrations to this year.

Bundaberg Community Kindergarten Director Jenette Matthews said the birthday event would be a great opportunity to enjoy some fun activities while celebrating a significant milestone.

“The event will be a fun day for children as we will be joining the 51st celebration with our Under 8s day celebration,” Jenette said.

“We will have activities for children, including face painting between 10 am and 1 pm, along with Dr Joe the scientist doing performances at 11 am and 12 pm.

“This provides the perfect opportunity for people to catch up with families, committee members and staff.

“We are excited to have been in contact with some original presidents and the original director to attend the event.”

History of Bundaberg Community Kindergarten

Plans for the kindergarten were established in 1964 after a group of residents formed a committee to find the perfect space.

The kindergarten officially opened its doors in May 1971 and was affiliated with the Creche and Kindergarten Association of Queensland.
