A family of strangers, reviewed by Jill Fulcher.

Fiona Lowe has written another great book, set in a small town in northwest Tasmania.

Addy Topic returns to Tasmania to her childhood home to take-up a new position and the hopes of renovating the old family home.

Steph Gallagher, her husband, and children have moved to Tasmania for a better life for their work and their son’s health.

Brenda Lambeck is sixty years old, widowed with three adult children and grandchildren and lives with her lodger, Marilyn.

She is trying to work out her rocky relationship with her daughter, Courtney and to tell her about her new relationship.

The book weaves about the lives of these three women and the small community in which they live.

They become members of the local choir and their relationships begin and strengthen.

There are many topics covered from bullying, alcoholism, miscarriage, family dynamics and rocky relationships in general.

A shocking public exposure leads to harsh words, family fractures and heartbreak.

It leads to those affected realising who and what is important to them.

I have always enjoyed reading books by Fiona Lowe and this one hasn’t disappointed.

The characters are believable and true to everyday life.
