Phoenix House have put the call out for committee members.

Local non-profit community based organisation Phoenix House has put the call out for committee members to continue its work in the region.

Phoenix House has been supporting people living in Bundaberg since 1995, providing a range of counselling and support services to people of all ages and specialise in providing support to people who have been impacted by sexual abuse and assault.

Current Phoenix House President David May said the organisation was looking to expand the number of committee members while diversifying the skill set.

“Like many community organisations Phoenix House Association is governed by a Management Committee which has oversight of the strategic direction, financial control and governance of legislated requirements for running a charitable organisation,” David said.

“There are currently six committee members who meet on a monthly basis.

“We are seeking to expand both the number of committee members sitting on the board and the diversity of skill mix and experience that members bring to the governance of the organisation and are calling for expressions of interest from community minded people who are willing to donate their skills and a small amount of time each month.”

While the organisation was originally started to support the survivors of sexual assault, through community demand their services have grown to provide a diverse range of mental health services and support to the broader Wide Bay community.

Role of a committee member

The Management Committee of Phoenix House is elected at the Annual General Meeting by the financial members of the association.

They are a group of committed people who represent the community for whom Phoenix House provides services, programs and activities.

Committee members, therefore, have a vested interest in ensuring that the organisation continues to be an effective and efficient community-based organisation.

The role of the committee is to govern the overall organisation and to provide direction, supervision and support to the service Chief Executive Officer, and other staff, as required.

To register you interest in becoming a committee member, you can email admin@phoenixhouse.com.au by Friday, 5 August.
