Celebrate social connection at Seniors Expo

Gin Gin Seniors Expo
There was plenty of activities happening at the Gin Gin Seniors Expo in 2021.

The community is invited to celebrate social connections of all ages and take part in the 2022 Gin Gin Seniors Expo on Friday.

This year's expo is taking on a festival theme with a focus on having fun, bringing the community together and creating lasting social connections.

The annual event is facilitated by the Gin Gin Neighbourhood Centre to connect the ageing community with groups that offer services within the area.

Bundaberg Regional Council's Community Services portfolio spokesperson Cr Tracey McPhee said connecting with one another had never been more important, and it was fitting to celebrate during October for Seniors Month.

Cr McPhee said Seniors Month provided opportunities to promote positive community attitudes towards older people and ageing, while enhancing community connections.

“Getting older does not mean you cannot have fun,” Cr McPhee said.

“This event will celebrate the important and essential roles seniors play in the Gin Gin community.

“During Gin Gin Seniors Expo people can find out information on local services including disability support, home and community care, free hearing checks, travel and concessions information, and much more.”

Residents and visitors to the expo will be entertained as they listen to live music by Bundaberg Regional Council’s Spark Starters, Abigail Williams and Loralei McMeekin, or take in the live demonstration by Gin Gin’s Tai Chi for Health group.

Tea and coffee will be available during the morning followed by a barbecue lunch provided by Gin Gin Neighbourhood Centre.
