Heads will turn at potters’ Renewal exhibition

Bundaberg Pottery Group Renewal exhibition open day
Bundaberg Pottery Group’s Renewal exhibition will officially open at 5 pm on Saturday, after the combined open day event, and will remain open throughout April in the Potters Gallery.

Bundaberg Pottery Group will be turning more than the wheel at its upcoming Renewal exhibition and combined open day on Saturday, 1 April.

Community members heads will turn as they embrace the beautiful and unique handmade ceramic pieces in Bundaberg Pottery Group’s April exhibition, Renewal.

Saturday will also be a chance to see local creativity firsthand as three crafty organisations host a combined open day at Walker Street Craft Centre, prior to the Renewal exhibition opening that evening.

Bundaberg Pottery Group publicity officer Gil Ireland said members were excited to open the doors along with neighbouring groups, Bundaberg Art Society and Bundaberg Woodworkers Guild, as it would give people a chance to start the Easter school holidays on the right foot.

Gil said the open day was also an opportunity to launch the pottery club’s Renewal exhibition, with members creating anything from wheel thrown to raku pottery pieces with a theme of being “renewed”.

“There will be all sorts of pottery, including hand building, wheel turning to raku and wood firing, along with kiln fired pieces on show,” she said.

“All works will be from members of the Bundaberg Pottery Group, depicting what renewal means to them.”

She said it was also a fitting theme, as it coincided with the newly renovated gallery space.

“We have a new look – a renewed gallery – with new paint and a new overall look that we’ve created,” Gil said.

“It’s a great chance for everyone to come and check out what we have to offer.”

Gil said Bundaberg Pottery Group had almost 100 members and they looked forward to welcoming new members at the open day.

“We have 97 members and we’re always looking for new members to join,” she said.

Bundaberg Pottery Group’s Renewal exhibition will officially open at 5 pm on Saturday, after the combined open day event, and will remain open throughout April in the Potters Gallery each Thursday and Saturday from 9 am to 1 pm.
