Friends excited for Childers Festival return

Friends of the Childers Festival members are gearing up for another successful four-day event, with the 2023 program to kick off from this Thursday.

The group is made up of local business members and residents who offer assistance and knowledge to help Bundaberg Regional Council plan and execute the annual Childers Festival.

Member Debbie Tedge said the group was integral in guiding the development of the program due to their insights into the Childers community.

“We know what is loved and appreciated about this colourful, historic festival,” she said.

“Our role as Friends of the Childers Festival members is to give feedback from the community, make suggestions and share our local knowledge, to make sure the festival aligns with the feel of our community.

“We are extremely excited that the festival has expanded into a four-day event, which gives people the opportunity to stay longer in our region.”

Debbie said every year the festival provided a welcomed boost to the local community as it attracted tens of thousands of people to the region.

“There is something for everyone on offer during the festival, whether you are into history, food, music, art or just fun!” she said.

This year, Friends of the Festival members are excited about a few new additions coming to the region in just a few short days time.

“Highlights of the festival for me will be the inaugural Twilight Markets on Thursday night at the Childers Showgrounds,” Debbie said.

“There will be a huge range of stallholders showcasing their wares, plus helicopter joy flights.

“Saturday night [Crescent Street Presents] is much more laid back and usually there are plenty of seats available for patrons to enjoy the amazing, free line up of the artists performing.”

Debbie said the Childers Festival catered to anybody on any budget.

“In the current economic climate, it's great that a family can purchase a pizza or some dinner from the onsite vendors and then enjoy hours of free entertainment,” she said.

“It's exciting that we shut down the highway on Sunday so locals and visitors can wander up and down the highway enjoying the sights and sounds of the festival, but there is so much more to enjoy as well!”
