Have your say at a Rainbow Community Café

Council will be hosting a series of Rainbow Community Cafés for the local LGBTIQAP+ community to gather together to build connection and support.

Members of Bundaberg’s rainbow community are invited to join in the colourful conversations as part of Bundaberg Regional Council’s series of Community Cafés to be held in February and March.

The Rainbow Community Cafés are the result of six months of ongoing conversations between Council’s Community Development team with services, individuals, groups and allies in the local LGBTIQAP+ community.

The sessions aim to provide a safe environment for the community to come together in support of one another to discuss the barriers, challenges and gaps they feel need to be addressed in the region.

Hosted by Councils’ Community Development team, relevant service workers will also be on hand to offer their perspectives, listen to the community and encourage connections, build confidence and create safe spaces.

Sessions will be run in groups of 20 to 30 people across several locations, including online sessions, using World Café principles to facilitate open conversations.

The aim of the Rainbow Community Cafés is to encourage intergenerational and intersectional discussions to not only expose a breadth of community voices, but to also build a better connection between age groups.

One of the desired outcomes is to encourage the development of a LGBTIQAP+ focused advisory group supported by Council’s Community Development team to share concerns raised and move forward with community led projects.

Residents living in areas outside of those already listed can submit an expression of interest for a community café to be held in their area, with an additional expression of interest available to join up to two online sessions with a date and time to be confirmed.
