The Bank of Queensland’s Vehicle for Kindness recently visited Bundaberg to deliver free essential products and acts of kindness to community members.
The mobile truck is travelling 1,350 kms across Queensland, starting in Brisbane through to Bundaberg and finally Townsville, to mark Bank of Queensland’s 150 years of service in the community as The Human Kind of Bank.
The team arrived in Bundaberg last week and visited Angels Community Group, a partner of Orange Sky.
They delivered enough essential food products to create 250 emergency hampers which included a free bag or box of food and essential hygiene products made up to suit the needs of the recipient.
Local BOQ staff also put on a warm breakfast for community members, one of the services currently receiving more demand than ever.
The support was welcomed with open arms, with Angels Community Group Founder Sue Tasker who said they had never been busier.
“For the first time we’re struggling to keep up with the demand from the local community,” Sue said.
“This year we have been providing an average of 120 emergency food hampers a week to people in our community.
“Every little bit counts at the moment and we couldn’t be more thankful for the team at The Bank Of Queensland.”
Delivering a helping hand
The Vehicle for Kindness was created in the hope of making a real difference in the lives of Australians who need a helping hand.
The initiative was developed alongside four Queensland-based not-for-profit charities including Orange Sky and Angels Community Group, to truly understand the needs of the community, and provide additional support that ultimately amplifies their current initiatives.
Chris Screen, Group Executive Business Banking at Bank of Queensland, emphasised that finding an impactful way to give back to the community that had supported them was essential in commemorating this incredible milestone.
“As we celebrate 150 years of serving the people of Queensland, we are excited to deepen our commitment to the communities that have supported us throughout the years with our Vehicle for Kindness initiative,” Chris said.
“In these challenging times, when many are feeling the strain of rising living costs, we are partnering with key organisations across the state, including our national community partner Orange Sky, to address the unique needs of each area.
“Our goal is to create a stronger, more connected state, fostering a spirit of unity and support that will benefit all Queenslanders.”
