Well, the temperature has warmed up during this past week with the last few days in particular bringing mild temperatures, blue skies and light winds.
Looking ahead to the coming days and it looks like more of the same in terms of light winds and mild temperatures, but there will be the slight chance of a shower or two about over the weekend.
The best news for beach goers though is the wind forecast which is quite variable in terms of wind direction but light in terms of wind strength.
Today’s winds will be from the E to E/NE at around 10 knots before tomorrow brings us E/SE to E/NE to N/NE winds at only 5 to 10 knots.
Sunday then should deliver even more variable winds with S/SW to N/NW to N/NE winds, which could then even swing from the S/SE in the late afternoon to early evening – but they will only be at around 5 to 10 knots as well.
Swimming
Just like the weather, the swimming conditions have been also quite good throughout this entire week with just a little bit of slight chop about the last few days.
Now, in great news for swimmers, the forecast suggests that we should see more of the same over the coming days – with light and variable winds set to continue – and if the forecast stays true they should not get over 10 knots in strength.
This will ensure the ocean remains mostly mild and calm again for the next few days, although there will be some slight chop through the afternoons on those beaches that face in a northerly direction.
The best time for swimmers will either be in the early mornings, or from late morning to mid-afternoon when the tide is high.
All beaches should have mostly mild swimming conditions across the coming days particularly while the winds remain light, although Elliott Heads and Kelly’s Beach will be better options through the afternoons when the winds turn more northerly.
Please check with the Lifeguard on duty, read any safety signage or messages AND most importantly please swim only at patrolled beaches, only between the red and yellow flags, and only during patrol times – remember, if we can’t see you, we can’t save you!
Weekdays: 9 am to 5 pm at Agnes Water only
Weekends: 9 am to 5 pm at Kelly’s Beach and Agnes Water only
Surfing
This past week has seen a continuation of flat seas and no surf – well, that was up until about Wednesday afternoon onwards anyway.
Look, the wave heights since then have not been huge but there has been a small, clean wave about to enjoy – which is more than we have seen for the past week or two!
The coming days should continue to throw up small but fun-sized waves with the only issue being the onshore winds causing a bit of slop – but these winds will only be light so hopefully not!
Check out the usual locations and spots but Elliott Heads and Kelly’s Beach will be worth a look when the winds do swing NE as well.
For the SUP and Ocean Ski paddlers chasing a downwind paddle, the winds are not looking great for that unfortunately with the wind strength not forecast to get much over 10 knots.
However for those looking for a more relaxed and gentle paddle the beaches should be OK with even a small, fun wave about to enjoy as well.
