Verna Donald 100 birthday
Described by her family as a pillar of strength and a source of inspiration, Verna Donald recently celebrated her 100th birthday.

Bundaberg’s Verna Donald celebrated a remarkable milestone on 23 July as she turned 100 surrounded by family, friends and community members.

The special occasion was evidence of a life filled with love, laughter, and enduring spirit.

Born in 1923 in Ryde, New South Wales, Verna moved to the Bundaberg Region with her family 42 years ago.

With eight children, 35 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, Verna has witnessed a century of change and progress.

“I don’t feel 100 – it’s just how you keep yourself,” Verna said.

“I do a lot of crocheting – I just keep myself busy – I don’t just sit here.”

Described by her family as a pillar of strength and a source of inspiration, Verna said the key to longevity was to reduce stress in your life.

“I have had a wonderful life and I have wonderful children,” she said.

“I get waited on now, which I am not used to.

“[To reach 100] you just don’t worry.

“Today might be one of ‘those’ days and tomorrow might be a wonderful day.

“My family is always coming in and I am really honoured.”
