Women war heroes shine in smash hit musical

It will be an inspiring start to 2025 at Moncrieff Entertainment Centre with the smash hit musical A Girl’s Guide to World War taking the stage on Saturday 5 April.

Told with rollicking humour and stirring live music, A Girl’s Guide to World War celebrates the true story of Aussie ‘lady doctors’ in 1916.

The uplifting musical features unforgettable characters to portray the fearless women who went to the frontline and became decorated war heroes.

After starting life in a tiny 70-seat black box theatre in regional Queensland this home-grown show became a runaway success, playing to sell-out crowds in Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast.

In 2025 a Girl’s Guide to World War will embark on its first Queensland tour thanks to funding provided by the Queensland Government through Arts Queensland.

This funding will allow live music to be provided in all locations by the award-winning, all-girl band ‘Vix and the Slick Chix’.

Created by Sunshine Coast couple Katy Forde and Aleathea Monsour, A Girl’s Guide to World War is the first regional Queensland production to win the major Matilda Award for ‘Best New Australian Work’.

“We’ve never toured before, and the whole gang can’t wait to get on the tour bus!” Katy Ford said.

“We’re all regional Queenslanders ourselves, so it’s extra special to share our musical with other Queenslanders.

“We’re delighted to be able to bring a show of this scale on tour to communities that are often overlooked by full-scale musicals.”

The touring cast includes Queensland theatre legends Justine Anderson, Simon Burvill-Holmes and the Matilda award winning Susie French, with a supporting cast of young performers.

The show has been hailed as ‘A wonderfully uplifting work of inspiration’ (Blue Curtains) and ‘Joyous and compelling…totally satisfying’ (Stage Whispers) but you can see for yourself at the Moncrieff Entertainment Centre in 2025!
