Beach report: another mixed week of weather

Looking ahead to the weekend, expect light to moderate winds and the chance of showers, though Sunday may bring a bit more sunshine.
In this week’s Beach Report, Craig Holden says that if the forecast stays true we can expect some good swimming conditions.

Looking ahead to the weekend, expect light to moderate winds and the chance of showers, though Sunday may bring a bit more sunshine.

Weather

Well, it has been a mixed bag of weather once again during this past week, with some sunny beach days, but also periods of rain mixed in as well, but at least the winds have been generally light.

Looking ahead to today and then across the weekend, the forecast is looking reasonably good for beach goers, with only light to light to moderate winds, but there is still the chance of showers – more likely today and then less likely across the weekend, with Sunday perhaps being the better day for a bit more sunshine.

Today’s winds will be variable, with S/SW winds this morning at around 10 knots that will then swing more from the S/SE to E/SE during the day at around 10+ knots.

Then for the weekend we are expecting very similar winds for both Saturday and Sunday, with the forecast suggesting S/SE to E/SE winds at around 10+ knots (10 to 15 knots at the most).

Swimming

Swimming conditions have generally been good for the most part this week, with just some slightly choppier conditions developing as the winds shifted direction over the past couple of days.

Looking ahead though, if the forecast stays true and correct, we can expect some good swimming conditions through today and then across the weekend with the winds not forecast to be stronger 10 to 15 knots.

With this in mind. We can expect good swimming conditions through the mornings especially while the winds are lighter, but the afternoons should also be OK with high tide times around mid-afternoon.

Beaches such as Agnes Water, Nielson Park, Moore Park and Hervey Bay will be slightly better than others, but generally all beaches should still be quite OK.

Best times for a swim will either be through the early morning or again from early to mid-afternoon.

Please check with the Lifesavers or Lifeguard on duty, read any safety signage or messages, AND most importantly please swim only at patrolled beaches, only between the red and yellow flags, and only during patrol times – remember, if we can’t see you, we can’t save you!

Beach patrols

Saturday & Sunday – 9 am to 5 pm at Elliott Heads, Kelly’s Beach, Nielson Park, Oaks Beach, Moore Park Beach & Agnes Water, PLUS a Rove Lifeguard in the Bundaberg Region.

Weekdays (Next Week) – 9 am to 5 pm @ Elliott Heads, Kelly’s Beach, Nielson Park, Oaks Beach, Moore Park Beach & Agnes Water, PLUS a Rove Lifeguard in the Bundaberg Region.

Surfing

Local board-riders have not been blessed with epic surf during this past week, but there have been a few small, clean waves about to enjoy on the long boards for those that timed the tide.

The forecast for the coming days is nothing special either, but there should still be some small, fun waves about for the long boards again, with the early mornings likely to be the best time to try your luck. Agnes Water, Nielson Park, Mon Repos and Moore Park Beach will likely be the better options too. Good Luck.

For the SUP and Ocean Ski paddlers chasing a downwind paddle, there will not be a lot of wind, but maybe just enough for a south to north run if you are desperate.

For those chasing a more relaxed and gentler paddle though, hit the beaches through the early mornings while the winds are light.

Events

The 2025 Australian Surf Life Saving Championships will conclude this weekend at North Kirra Beach on the Gold Coast, with the main finals being held on Sunday (after 9 days of competition).
