Wide Bay Bowls Classic (WBBC) – Finals Day Saturday 26 April

Burnett travelled to Pialba and played Urangan on Saturday morning in the Qualifying Final to see who played Bargara in the afternoon in the Grand Final.

In the morning game, Burnett defeated Urangan 5 rinks to 0 rinks in a dominant display to reach the Grand Final. Well done!

In the Final it was a close encounter right up until the closing ends.

Burnett won the Men’s Fours and the Men’s Triples with the results of the Mixed Fours and Men’s Pairs going down to the last couple of ends to decide the overall winner.

Unfortunately, Burnett lost both rinks in a tight finish to go down 2 rinks to Bargara winning 3 rinks.

Well done to all players as your efforts and commitment was very commendable.

Big thank you to ALL players that represented Burnett during the 5 round games and those that played on Finals Day.

Thank you to Allan Carney and Tracey Rye for travelling to Pialba as our reserves for the Finals Day.

Also, a big thank you to Tracey Rye for being the team Manager for the 6 weeks – you did a great job, and I am sure it was appreciated by all players.

Thank you to Dave Rye for Umpiring during the WBBC.

As you can see it is a combined effort of many players and officials to be involved in an event like this, so congratulations to all involved.

Finally, thank you to the WBBC Selectors – again a very difficult job with many members putting their hand up to play and as you can appreciate it is a tough job to put teams together each week.

Woodgate Bowls Club

Tuesday 22 April – Ladies Day

Big day out for some of our Lady Bowlers today, travelling to Moore Park to play in the BDBA District Fours Championship.

Two teams of Ladies flew the flag for our club, while not featuring in the place getters both teams played as well as could be expected in the unseasonably extremely hot conditions and lightening fast greens.

Lead: Lesley Christensen, Second: Donna Smith, Third: Sylvia Mollison and Skip Fiona Dowling had two close wins, one close loss by one point and a sound flogging handed out by a Burnett team.

Lead: Jacquie Rogerson, Second: Daphne Brettell, Third: Judi Barrett and Skip Cheryl Hutchinson had one win, and three close losses, one of which was by one point to the other Woodgate team.

Back at our home green social Ladies Bowls went ahead with the jackpot going off as an added bonus!

Lucky rink 11 took out both the winning rink and the Jackpot prizes:
