For Domestic and Family Violence (DFV) Month in May, EDON Place is calling on the community to show support by going purple to raise awareness for domestic and family violence.

The colour purple symbolises peace, courage, survival, honour and dedication to ending violence.

By wearing purple or displaying it in your business or service, you honour the lives lost, support those who remain, and stand with those currently experiencing domestic and family violence.

Together, we can raise awareness and spark change.

Let’s speak up and be the voice that breaks the silence.

Events in May

Light up the Auswide Bank purple

Date: 1 – 30 May 2025

Throughout the month of May, Auswide Bank will be lighting up in purple to show support and raise awareness for DFV prevention.

By lighting up the building in purple, Auswide banks stand in solidarity with those impacted, and reinforces its commitment to creating a safe community for everyone.

Let’s shine a light on this important issue – because together, we can make a difference.

Light up the School of Arts purple

Date: 1 – 7 May 2025

Location: School of Arts, 184 Bourbong Street, Bundaberg Central

Bundaberg will be lighting the School of Arts purple.

The colour is a symbol of peace, courage, survival, honour and dedication to ending violence.

Candlelight vigil Bundaberg

Date: 7 May 2025

Time: 5.30 pm

Location: CBD Pavillion, Bourbong Street, Bundaberg

Please join the community in honouring the precious lives of those who have died in 2025 due to domestic and family violence by attending the annual candlelight vigil.

Gin Gin Neighbourhood Centre community BBQ

Date: 8 May 2025

Time: 11 am – 1 pm

Location: Mulgrave Street Park, Gin Gin (opposite Bendigo Bank and the chemist)

Each year the Gin Gin Neighbourhood Centre runs a domestic and family violence awareness campaign and a community BBQ to support of DFV Prevention Month.

The event is being held to raise community awareness of the social and personal impacts of domestic and family violence and provide information and support available to those affected.

Bundaberg Soccer DFV prevention round

Date: 10 May 2025

Time: 8 am – 12 pm and 3 pm – 9 pm

Location: Martens Oval, 8 Miller Street, Norville

Bundaberg Soccer will be holding a DFV round at Martens Oval.

Players will be honouring those who have lost their lives to domestic and family violence and intimate partner violence in 2025.

EDON Place and Queensland Police Service (QPS) will be present with information and resources.

Walk for Awareness Bundaberg

Date: 16 May 2025

Time: 7.15 am

Location: Bywash Park, Flint Street, Bundaberg South (across from the Bundaberg Basketball Stadium)

We will be walking to raise awareness for the lives lost due to domestic and family violence in 2025.

Togethers we will honour the victims by remembering their names and stories.

Childers Neighbourhood Centre community BBQ

Date: 16 May 2025

Time: 11 am – 1 pm

Location: Millennium Park, 61 Churchill Street, Childers

Each year the Childers Neighbourhood Centre runs a domestic and family violence awareness campaign and a community BBQ to support of DFV Prevention Month.

The event is being held to raise community awareness of the social and personal impacts of domestic and family violence and provide information and support available to those affected.

Bundaberg Netball Association visit

Date: 24 May 2025

Time: 10 am to 5.30 pm

Location: 40 Enid Ethel Drive, Kensington

EDON Place will be present on site with information and resources.

Bundaberg Rugby League DFV prevention round

Date: 31 May 2025

Time: 9 am start

Location: Salter Oval, Millbank

Bundaberg Rugby League will be holding a domestic and family violence round at Salter Oval.

Players will be honouring those who of lost their lives to domestic and family violence by wearing purple armbands and holding a minute silence for the victims of domestic and family violence and intimate partner violence in 2025.

EDON Place will be present with information and resources.

EDON Place Billboard

Date: 1 – 30 May 2025

EDON Place will be promoting awareness on the main street billboard located on the corner of Bourbong and Maryborough Street, above Battery world.
