Shalom College is proud to welcome one of Australia’s greatest sporting icons, Lauren Jackson, for an in-depth Q&A for this year’s highly anticipated Empowering Women’s Evening.
Taking place on Thursday, 22 May 2025, the evening brings the Bundaberg community together to celebrate female empowerment, leadership, and resilience.
A five-time Olympian and global basketball sensation, Jackson’s remarkable story of triumph, longevity, and perseverance has inspired millions.
“Lauren is not only an extraordinary athlete—she’s an amazing human being,” said Shalom College Principal Dan McMahon. “Her experience with life’s highs and lows will resonate far beyond the sporting world.”
Since its inception in 2023, the Empowering Women’s Evening has grown into a key regional event. With attendance from students, parents and the wider community, the evening is a platform for inspiration, inclusion, and advocacy.

This year’s event is proudly supported by Bundaberg Basketball, a strong advocate for female participation in sport.
“We believe sport is a powerful vehicle for building confidence and leadership in women and girls,” said Bundaberg Basketball Secretary Katrina Ashmore.
“We actively promote female participation through junior programs and strong role models across all levels of our club.”
An Australian Opals Jersey signed by Lauren Jackson will be raffled on the night, with funds raised from the raffle going towards Edon Place, a not-for-profit organisation supporting families impacted by domestic and family violence.
“These funds help us provide essential items and therapeutic resources for women and children rebuilding their lives,” said an Edon Place’s Community Engagement Coordinator Jenae.
The event has received overwhelming support from local businesses, including The Waves Sports Club, Hinkler Podiatry, Rum City Foods, Bundaberg Swimming Academy, Bundaberg Basketball, and A Touch of Paradise Landscaping and Construction.
“We’re incredibly grateful to our sponsors for helping bring a speaker of Lauren’s calibre to Bundaberg. It’s an investment in the next generation,” Dan McMahon added.
Tickets are available now, here.
Tickets to the event include a drink on arrival and canapés, and in-depth Q&A with Lauren Jackson.
The entire Bundaberg community is invited to attend and be inspired by one of Australia’s most decorated athletes while supporting a cause that is truly changing lives.
