Bundaberg Regional Libraries will continue to bridge the digital divide thanks to a technology grant awarded by Good Things Australia.

The funding will be used to expand the current one-on-one support sessions and small group classes offered by the libraries, further assisting those struggling with digital literacy and common technology issues.

Council’s Arts and Heritage portfolio spokesperson Councillor John Learmonth said the grant funding directly addressed a need in the local community.

“In today’s increasingly digital world, access to technology and the skills to use it are more important than ever,” Cr Learmonth said.

“Many people struggle to navigate smartphones, computers and online services and these sessions offer friendly and personalised support.

“I would encourage anyone looking for technological assistance, no matter what their level of experience, to reach out and take advantage of these fantastic services.”

Technology support sessions

The one-on-one support sessions (Coffee and Computers) will offer individual guidance on a range of technology issues while the weekly small group classes (Technology Lectures) will cover specific topics based on community need.

“Whether you need help setting up an account or troubleshooting common software problems, make the library your first stop by booking a one-on-one session with our knowledgeable staff,” Cr Learmonth said.

“Alternatively, if you want to build your digital skills you can attend one of our small classes where topics will include anything from internet safety to understanding smart devices, with everyone learning together in a supportive environment.”

To register to be part of the Technology Lectures weekly group classes or to book a Coffee and Computers one-on-one support session, phone the Bundaberg Library on 07 4130 4140.

Technology Lectures take place at the Bundaberg Library on Thursday mornings from 9.30 am.

Good Things Australia is a not-for-profit organisation providing grants and support to community organisations across Australia to deliver digital literacy programs.
