Three new exhibitions set to open at Bundaberg Regional Art Gallery give audiences plenty of creative inspiration to enjoy as part of the Galleries’ Winter Program.

The exhibitions, ‘Carbon_Dating’, ‘Mom Bras’ and ‘repeating gestures of becoming’, explore themes of identity, environment and female form in a diverse showing of sculpture, installation, photography and textile art.

The community is invited to join the opening celebrations at an opening night party on Friday 18 July and public talks on Saturday 19 July.

Artist Charmaine Lyons’ exhibition, ‘repeating gestures of becoming’, features 700 clay pears in a site-specific installation for the gallery’s Vault space.

“I wanted to explore The Tale of the Handless Maiden through the medium of clay and through the shape of the pear, what the pear symbolised,” Charmaine said.

“Having worked with people of differing abilities I wanted to provide a sensory opportunity for everyone, so elements of sound, moving image, and touch are integral to this project.

“I choose to work in multiples, with the rhythmic repetition and engagement with material providing the opportunity for contemplation.”

Bundaberg Regional Council’s Arts and Heritage portfolio spokesperson Councillor John Learmonth said the opening weekend public programs provided visitors an opportunity to delve deeper.

“The opening weekend will have two in-conversation events that will give visitors a fascinating insight into the inspiration behind the exhibitions,” Cr Learmonth said.

“Curator of Carbon_Dating, Beth Jackson, will share the unique process she undertook to develop the exhibition using artwork-based environmental experiments.

“From Texas, USA, artist Cassie Arnold will discuss her exhibition ‘Mom Bras’ and why she finds textiles such an engaging medium to work in.

“I encourage everyone to come along and join the creative discourse.”
