The Isis District Historical Society was honoured to welcome Dr Ruth Kerr, Honorary Secretary and past President of The Royal Historical Society of Queensland to Childers.
Dr Kerr’s visit was a significant event for the local community.
She met with members of the society to discuss their achievements and encouraged them to consider nominating for an award.
During her visit, Dr Kerr engaged in meaningful conversations with society members, highlighting the importance of preserving local history and recognising the efforts of those dedicated to the cause.
Her late husband, John Kerr, was the author of the popular book Only Room for One – A History of Sugar in the Isis District, which has been a valuable resource for understanding the region’s history.
The President of the Isis District Historical Society, Scott Stedman, expressed his gratitude for Dr Kerr’s visit and shared his personal experience with John Kerr’s book.
“It was a very interesting and informative read. I read it from cover to cover,” he said.
“The society is so grateful to have a signed copy in its archives,” Scott said.
