Social distancing means this year’s Annual Salvation Army Motorcycle Christmas Toy Drive will be different, but the goal remains the same.
The traditional Salvation Army Christmas toy run from Bargara to Bundaberg has been postponed, but that will not stop participants from delivering joy to the lives of needy children in the Bundaberg Region.
Instead, riders will drop off toys to the Salvation Army Church at Avenell Heights between 8am and noon on Saturday, 5 December with non-riders also encouraged to deliver gifts for all ages from small children to teenagers.
Bundaberg Salvation Army Corps Officer Major Chris Millard said the public would miss the toy run but was confident that the Bundaberg community would again rally behind the popular event.
“People really do get excited by the motorcycles passing through town, and that has been key to the event’s success, but we still have 150 families counting on us to make their Christmas brighter this year,” Chris said.
“These toys make a big difference for these kids and the donations help make a better Christmas for families who are struggling.”
A sausage sizzle, coffee, and drinks will be available on the day with all riders going into the draw for prizes.
Toys can be dropped off prior to the day at Just Cruisin’ Autos at 34 George Street, Bundaberg, and on the day at Salvation Army Church, 110 McCarthy Road, Avenell Heights.
Toys will also be accepted at the church or Salvation Army family stores in Bundaberg and Bargara before the day.
Chris said the Salvation Army would also conduct a food drive in support of battling families.
