Bundaberg Regional Libraries has launched Ziptales, an online tool which supports primary school students in literacy education.
Bundaberg Regional Council community and cultural services portfolio spokesperson Cr Judy Peters said the program was free to use for anyone with a library card.
“Ziptales is a fantastic resource for students, parents and teachers to help develop literacy skills,” Cr Peters said.
“The free online tool provides visual and engaging learning activities for preschool aged children right up to NAPLAN style tests for students in grades three and five.
“Kids will be having so much fun using this program on a computer or mobile device that they won’t even realise they’re learning!”
Cr Peters said the library had subscribed to Ziptales as an extension of the literacy support offered to children aged up to five-years-old as part of First Five Forever.
“The library plays an important role in literacy support for children by providing resources and showing parents how to introduce literacy in to everyday life,” she said.
“Ziptales offers an opportunity for parents and kids to continue their learning at home.
“It is so important to set children up with a love of reading early in life so that they keep reading and learning long term.”
After completing the NAPLAN simulation test students have the option to send their results to their teacher or parents.
Ziptales literacy program created by teachers
Ziptales was founded by two passionate ex-teachers Richard and Valerie McRoberts.
The primary literacy program was created with the aim of making reading a pleasure. Its philosophy is to offer a vast range of reading experiences, very much like a digital version of a real library, where above all the child actually enjoys the reading.
Ziptales will work on any computer as well as any mobile device like iPad or Android Tablet.
To access the program, head to library.bundaberg.qld.gov.au and select Ziptales under the ‘Young People’ tab in the menu.
You will be prompted to add your Bundaberg Regional Libraries barcode number to access the site for Ziptales literacy.
If you’re not already a member, head to your nearest library in Bundaberg, Childers, Gin Gin and Woodgate to register and start accessing free resources immediately.
