Gin Gin police get on their bikes

Queensland Police Constables Luke Handley and Brendan Cullen patrolled on pushbikes in Gin Gin on New Year's Eve to keep an eye on the town's new year celebrations.

The use of bicycles increases officer mobility in areas where it is not practical to use police vehicles.

Pushbikes also increase officer visibility while at the same time enabling them to interact closely with the community.

Sergeant Sharon Morgan, officer in charge at Gin Gin Police Division, said the initiative had been successful.

“Our community is one that embraces our local police and it's rewarding to be able to be out and about interacting with our community,” she said.

So if you see the officers around Gin Gin make sure you give them a wave!
