Bundaberg summer drier and hotter than usual

Every month of the recently completed summer was hotter and drier than average, with Bundaberg receiving less than one third of its usual summer rain.

Total rainfall over December, January and February was 126mm compared with the long-term average of 455mm.

The gauge at Bundaberg Airport recorded 68mm in December, 7 in January and 51 in February.

Maximum mean temperatures were 30.2 degrees in December (29.6 average), 32 in January (30.4) and 32.3 in February (30.1).

The hottest day was 36.2 degrees on 21 February.

Minimum mean temperatures were 17.5 degrees in December (16.4 average), 21.2 in January (21.5) and 21.5 in February (21.4).

The coolest minimum was 17.5 on Christmas Day.

The weather bureau's latest forecast is for showers increasing on Tuesday, possibly delivering up to 15mm of rain.

There's no promise of a significant change in the weather to bring much-needed rain.
