Cordalba State School to celebrate 125 years

Organisers of the Cordalba State School's forthcoming 125th anniversary celebrations will be hoping part of the school motto – “tis taking part that counts” – applies to past and present students wishing to attend the celebrations.

The school opened on 22 January 1894 with Edward Alexander Jackson as head teacher.

The anniversary, to be held on Saturday, 31 August will be a casual affair with market stalls, a car boot sale, barbecue lunch and the obligatory birthday cake to share.

Deputy Mayor Cr Bill Trevor has connections to the school, having been a past P&C president, with his two children having attended Cordalba State School.

A spokesperson for the anniversary committee said the celebration is already raising debate with a few locals “discussing” who among them is the oldest former student?

No doubt the roll call on the day will settle all arguments.
