Whether it was a crazy colour, complete shave or even getting eyebrows stripped bare, people from around the region were keen to take part in a massive fundraiser for The World’s Greatest Shave.
Held at disability services organisation Community Lifestyle Support (CLS) on Ashfield Rd, the event featured up to 20 participants shaving their heads and more than 50 people colouring their hair.
CLS coordinator Todd Jamieson said the day was a huge success, with the team superseding their fundraising goal of $3000, reaching over $7000 in donations.
“Our clients loved participating and are extremely proud of what they have achieved,” he said.
“It was a great day out and I would like to thank everyone involved.”
The top fundraisers of the day included Ben Davis, who waxed his eyebrows off for $200, and CLS HR and Safety Administration Officer Leila Lovett, who decided to brave the shave and sacrificed her shoulder-length locks for the cause.
Ms Lovett said she was honoured to have been involved in the event.
“It was a chance for me to do something for other people,” she said.
“I do have some friends and family who have had various forms of cancer and I believe if you support one, you are really supporting them all.
“I ended up raising over $1144 and hopefully more donations will keep coming through.”
Councillor gets colourful
Even Division 2 councillor Bill Trevor participated in the event, rocking a pink hair and blue beard combo for the fundraiser.
Cr Trevor said The World’s Greatest Shave was something he was proud to be part of.
“I think there are so many people in our community affected by cancer and it is a small thing to do to raise a few dollars,” he said.
“I encourage everyone to get involved with donating.”
Cr Trevor said his new look was really growing on him.
“I am quite pleased with it- I really like the blue,” he laughed.
“I could be grandpa smurf. I might continue to wear it on meeting days.”
