The combined 2019 Seniors Forum and Expo to be held at the Multiplex on Tuesday, 26 March will be a one-stop shop for useful information.
With more than 70 stalls and exhibits as well as a full program of guest speakers, the Forum and Expo provides the opportunity for seniors across the region to find answers to their questions and options to their lifestyle choices.
Community and Cultural Services portfolio spokesperson Cr Judy Peters said the Forum and Expo brought together a genuine talent pool of community and industry representatives who could provide commentary on issues important to the regions seniors.
“This event provides an insight into a broad range of topics dealing with legal matters, retirement options, health service providers, exercise programs, and understanding the options available to seniors through government supplied health services,” said Cr Peters.
“Discussing disaster preparedness can provide peace of mind when severe weather events are imminent.
“Being prepared and having a plan takes a lot of stress out of emergency situations. There will be a very useful discussion undertaken on disaster preparedness by a Red Cross representative.
“Keeping up to date with the changing health care landscape is difficult and the Expo is showcasing presentations on My Health Record and My Aged Care with government representatives covering these topics.”
Seniors first
Mayor Jack Dempsey said the seniors population represented a significant demographic in the Bundaberg Region.
“You only need to look at the services in health and retirement accommodation and lifestyle choices that have evolved over recent years to realise more seniors are making the region their home.
“Statistics support the fact that the Bundaberg Region is outstripping the Queensland average when it came to our aging population. We certainly have impressive numbers when it comes to seniors aged 65 and over.”
Mayor Dempsey said many seniors continued to make a valuable contribution to the local community through their ongoing volunteering efforts.
The 2019 Seniors Forum and Expo commences tomorrow (Tuesday) at the Multiplex from 8.30am. The event is free and a complimentary morning tea will be served.
