Australia's Biggest Morning Tea isn't until 23 May but ABC Wide Bay got in early today to promote the Cancer Council fundraiser.

Bundaberg Regional Council Mayor Jack Dempsey showed his support, calling in at a live outside broadcast for a cuppa and chat.

Mayor Dempsey congratulated ABC Wide Bay on raising awareness and he encouraged others to get on board.

“Cancer is a terrible thing which effects many Australians directly or their friends and family,” he said.

“Coming together for a cup of tea or coffee and making a small donation can make a big difference.”

The Mayor joined a spirited rendition of “You Are My Sunshine” on live radio.

The Cancer Council says it's an easy way to bring people together to raise funds that will make a big difference to those impacted by cancer.

“The idea is simple, just get your friends, colleagues or community together over some tea and treats, and help fund Cancer Council’s life-saving research, prevention, support programs, and information.

“You can host your morning tea your way: big or small, at work or home, sweet or savoury – every morning tea makes a difference!

“The official date is Thursday 23rd May 2019, but if that doesn’t work for you, no worries, you can pick any date in May or June.”
