Snappy and Toothy National Children's Week
Gin Gin Library coordinator Sharon Millett is ready to promote National Children's Week with reading mascots Snappy and Toothy proudly displayed by Tatum and Jett.

Lovable crocodile twins Snappy and Toothy will be star attractions as National Children’s Week activities unfold at the Gin Gin State School on Friday, October 25.

The hand puppet mascots, hatched a year ago from the Reading Egg used as part of the Paint Gin Gin REaD initiative, will make a welcome appearance at the Gin Gin State School.

The event is being organised by the Gin Gin Library with Library coordinator Sharon Millett keen for broad community involvement on the day.

“We had plenty of fun a year ago when Snappy and Toothy hatched as part of our early literacy program,” Sharon said.

“The children read, sang, rhymed and talked to the Reading Egg to ensure the pair, which are our reading mascots, would continue to grow.

“Now we are taking the opportunity to celebrate their first birthday and we have a host of activities organised to ensure the occasion is celebrated in style.”

Snappy and Toothy to be part of National Children's Week fun

Sharon said while the focus will be on reading, the children will be encouraged to join in the BUSHKids Read and Grow activities which will be related to crocodile story-telling and craft.

“The Gin Gin Neighbourhood Centre and QCWA are joining us to promote a fruit and vegetable activity and a Kindness Rocks activity which includes a toothbrush giveaway.

“Gin Gin State School will tell us how water gets into our taps with some fabulous water activities and books while the local State Emergency Service will provide valuable information on its flood boat and the use of life jackets.

“We want every child attending the morning to read a book and record it on a Paint the Town REaD splat.”

Sharon said everyone was welcome to attend the National Children's Week event with Snappy and Toothy which will run from 9.30am until 11am.
